Sustainable Delivery: 5 Practical Steps Businesses Can Take Today

Reducing the environmental impact of deliveries doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. At OAM Logistics Ltd, we work with businesses across Manchester to make their shipping greener, faster and more cost-effective. Here are five practical steps you can implement right away.

1. Consolidate Shipments Where Possible

Combining multiple orders into a single drop (multi-drop) reduces journeys and emissions. If you dispatch regularly, ask us about Business Accounts & Trade Solutions that include scheduled collections and route optimisation.

2. Choose the Right Vehicle

Match parcel size and weight to the vehicle — no oversized vans for small deliveries. OAM Logistics offers specialist vehicle options and dedicated vans to avoid wasted space and reduce fuel use.

3. Optimise Packaging

Smarter packaging means less bulk, lower costs and reduced CO₂ per parcel. Use recyclable materials and avoid oversized boxes when possible. Our team can advise on best practices for high-value or fragile goods.

4. Plan Efficient Routes & Use Local Couriers

Local providers know the city and can use efficient routes to reduce mileage. Choosing a Manchester-based courier like OAM Logistics often results in faster pickups and fewer miles on the road — read more on our Same Day Delivery page.

5. Track & Measure Emissions

Start tracking delivery performance and fuel use. Small changes add up — monitoring lets you target the biggest savings. For urgent or time-critical deliveries, our Out-of-Hours & Emergency Courier options still allow routing optimisation to reduce impact.

Adopting these steps helps your business cut costs, reduce environmental impact, and demonstrate responsibility to customers. If you’d like help creating a greener delivery plan, contact our team or call 0161 821 0425.
